Here is the final cover to Book 2!

The book will be printed on gold foil (in keeping with the silver foil on Book1) so this is a recreation of what the real book will look like. Design is by Colleen AF Venable. Astronaut Academy: Re-Entry will be released May 14th, 2013 from First Second Books, but you can pre-order the book on most major book websites and add it to your Goodreads lists now!

Fireball action!

Sometimes working on comics means backyard action poses with the broom!
Astronaut Academy: Re-Entry will feature a lot of Fireball competitions (the sport of the future), so I’ve been taking reference photos behind the apartment. I just wish I could build full-sized replica of the Mecha suits and fire pokers! That would help a lot!

I’ll post some more photos with comparisons to the final drawings when the book is further along!

Happy New Year!
Time is already flying by as I’ve been furiously working hard on the second volume of Astronaut Academy! I’m still a ways off from being finished, but here’s a snippet of one of the early thumbnail pages:

I wrote the entire script for book 2 in this fashion. I did a short interview with Faith talking about Astronaut Academy, X-Men and Avatar: The Last Airbender. Friends With Boys will be coming out as a graphic from :01 books but you can read it online totally free!
