Battle of the Books Kick-Off Celebration

For all ages
All are invited to attend a special event and book signing with authors Kate Hannigan and Dave Roman. Free and open to the public in celebration of the Learning Advantage Partnership’s 10 year anniversary. This year’s elementary school reading list for Battle of the Books included works from both Hannigan and Roman. Books will be available for purchase and signing. Refreshments will be served. This event will take place at Winters Mill High School.

Here is where you can find me at the 2015 Gaithersburg Book Festival on Saturday, May 16th.

Dave Roman & Jorge Aguire present Astronaut Academy & Dragons Beware!
Meet the authors behind these two graphic novels from First Second books. They will have a fun conversation, take questions from the audience and do some drawing.
2:15 at the Jim Henson Children’s Pavillion

Comics Quickfire! hosted by Dave Roman
A fast-paced game show where kids of all ages are paired off with (or against) professional illustrators in a series of fun-filled drawing challenges! Audience members will provide suggestions and add to the creation of totally improvised epic drawings! Featuring graphic novelists Dave Roman (Astronaut Academy), Pénélope Bagieu (Exquisite Corpse) Alexis Frederick-Frost (Adventures in Cartooning) and surprise guests.
4:20pm on the Imagination Station stage in Children’s Village.

I believe there will also be book signings following these two events.

As expected, Raina & I had an amazing time at Gaithersburg Book Festival!

I even appear briefly in this video about the festival…

Our drawing games had a great turn out with super creative volunteers!

Thanks to everyone who came by to get their books signed and share anecdotes about reading and drawing with us!

I also got to share the stage with my good friend, Ben Hate (creator of Zita the Spacegirl) for some fun talk about space heroes.

And of course you can’t get two cartoonists on stage without some competitive drawing!

An evil banana driving a dinosaur mech, per the audience suggestion!
