I’ll be at the Library Con hosted by the Fair Lawn Public Library on Sunday November 19th. Presenting at 2:30pm

Our five level building will don a mask and cape and transform into a celebration of all things SUPER on Sunday, November 19! This FREE event will feature comic artists and illustrators Dave Roman & Mark Mariano, Co-CEO of Archie Comics Nancy Silberkleit, food trucks, free comics, a costume contest with amazing prizes, video games, crafts for kids, How to be a Jedi, an Arkham Asylum escape room (for kids), seminars & panels on Anime, Marvel vs. DC, Super Hero Movies, Children’s Publishing (featuring authors and a literary agent) and others! Check out our board games, Pokemon room and scavenger hunt, trivia, photo opportunities, costumed characters, and surprise giveaways all day long! This family-friendly event is for ALL AGES and we encourage you to dress up (family friendly costumes, please)!

July 9th, 2016 I’ll be a guest at the Electric City Comic Con in Schenectady, NY. I believe I’m giving the opening keynote, and hosting the Cosplay Masquerade! Should be super fun. Lots of other great artists like Gregg Schigiel, Frank Cammusso, Mark Mariano, Jacob Chabot, Jess Fink, and Eric Colossal will be there too! Books for sale by the Open Door Book Store.

Comics Bakery Reader’s Theater
A live performance graphic novel theater involving lots of audience participation and silliness. Raina Telgemeier (Drama), Dave Roman (Astronaut Academy), and Jerzy Drozd (Cap’n Cat) will perform chapters from some of their latest comics.

Black-Eyed Susan Award Nomination!

Astronaut Academy :Zero Gravity has been nominated for a Black-Eyed Susan Book Award in the Graphic Novel: Grades 4-6 category for the 2014-2015 school year. The award seeks to promote literacy and lifelong reading habits by encouraging students to read quality contemporary literature. The award is librarian nominated and student selected. Each year more than 70,000 students across the state vote for their favorite nominated book in five categories: Picture Book, Grades 4-6, Graphic Novels: Grades 4-6, Grades 6-9, and High School.

This is my first state book award nomination and I couldn’t be more excited! I drew this original piece as thanks to the Maryland Association of School Librarians (MASL) and all the students who have supported Astronaut Academy!

Seattle, Montlake Library

Seattle-ites! Dave Roman and John Green will be giving a cartooning workshop at the Montlake Library on Monday, March 4th, from 6:30 to 7:30pm! We’ll talk about and demonstrate our processes behind creating characters for TEEN BOAT! and Astronaut Academy, and maybe even draw a SpongeBob or Phineas & Ferb while we’re at it. Kids will learn how to develop their own characters and comics. Registration is required, more info can be found here:
