Signed over 200 copies of Astronaut Academy for An Open Book Foundation! Every time I got overwhelmed I just remembered how many books Dav and Dan probably signed over the course of their recent tour.

Snowbots
Tried my first snow cream at SnowBots in Rockville, Maryland. Went back and tried it again the next morning. It’s sort of like Shave Ice, Ice Cream and Cotton Candy all in one!

Senor Panda
Had a great event at Big Planet Comics that included a surprise visit from a Señor Panda cosplayer!

Matchgame
Went head to head against Brian Smith (co-creator of The Stuff of Legend) in Matchgame!

Cyst Removal
Finally started removing the sebaceous cysts that have been growing on my head! I’ve been putting this off for years and they’ve really gotten out of control.

The award seeks to promote literacy and lifelong reading habits by encouraging students to read quality contemporary literature. The award is librarian nominated and student selected. Each year more than 70,000 students across the state vote for their favorite nominated book in five categories: Picture Book, Grades 4-6, Graphic Novels: Grades 4-6, Grades 6-9, and High School.

This is my first state book award nomination and I couldn’t be more excited! I drew this original piece as thanks to the Maryland Association of School Librarians (MASL) and all the students who have supported Astronaut Academy!

It’s on display at the Allentown Art Museum until December 29th, 2013.

Bonus: the other two graphic novels published by First Second in May are by some of my favorite creators as well! Odd Duck by Cecil Castellucci and Sara Varon, and Nothing Can Possibly Go Wrong by Prudence Shen and Faith Erin Hicks are both going to be really rad books.
