A fast-paced game show where volunteers are paired off with (or against) professional cartoonists in a series of fun-filled drawing challenges! Audience members will provide suggestions and add to the creation of totally improvised epic drawings! Join in on a live recording of the pop-culture podcast, Saturday Supercast with Gene Yang (Avatar: The Last Airbender), Shelli Paroline and Braden Lamb (Adventure Time), John Green (Phineas & Ferb), Dave Roman (SpongeBob), Jerzy Drozd (Sugary Serials) & more!

Author Dave Roman reads from his latest graphic novel Astronaut Academy: Re-Entry and discusses how his love of comic strips, manga and videogames inspire his work. He’ll also share how he went from doodling as a kid to being a full-time cartoonist who gets to visit schools and libraries, encouraging kids to make their own comics and out-of-this-world stories.

Kids Comics Revolution! Live recording

A live recording of the the acclaimed podcast that raises the banner in support of comics for kids! Hosts Jerzy Drozd (The Front) and Dave Roman (Astronaut Academy) will be joined by Aaron Renier (Walker Bean) & surprise guests for a fun conversation where people from the audience will be encouraged to share book recommendations and anecdotes about graphic novels in the library!

The Angst of Being a Teen, the Thrill of Being A Boat!
1:00 – 2:00 pm

Teen Boat! combines the drama of YA with the action of Transformers for a tongue-in-cheek genre mash up. Authors Dave Roman and John Green will perform hilarious scenes from the book using projected visuals and audience participation. They’ll also share insight into what goes into making a full-color graphic novel and why teens transforming into yachts will obviously be the next hot trend.

About Dave

Dave Roman is the author of several graphic novels including Astronaut Academy: Zero Gravity, Teen Boat! and Agnes Quill: An Anthology of Mystery. He has contributed stories to Explorer: The Mystery Boxes, Nursery Rhyme Comics, and is the co-author of two New York Times bestselling graphic novels, X-Men: Misfits and The Last Airbender: Zuko’s Story. Roman is a graduate of the School of Visual Arts and worked as a comics editor for the groundbreaking Nickelodeon Magazine from 1998 to 2009. He lives in NYC with his wife, and fellow comic artist, Raina Telgemeier.
